According to a VNA correspondent in Seoul, the analysis of travel trends in the third quarter of 2024 by Kyowon Tour Travel Easy Group, released on July 8th, revealed that Vietnam leads as the preferred overseas travel destination for South Koreans, with a rate of 13.7%, surpassing Japan’s 13.2%.
The tourism industry’s analysis indicates that short-haul destinations account for 80% of total bookings during the peak summer travel season of 2024, particularly for the Chuseok holiday, the largest holiday of the year for South Koreans.

The reason is that South Koreans mainly choose travel destinations where they can relax without worrying much about expenses. Also, according to the analysis of travel booking data, this year’s Chuseok holiday has a longer break, lasting from September 14th to 22nd, and the demand for overseas travel is expected to increase significantly.
A leader of Kyowon Tour Travel Easy Group said that due to the impact of high inflation, more and more customers are choosing short-haul overseas destinations during holidays or taking early vacations to avoid peak season to reduce the cost burden.
However, to continue to maintain its attractiveness and meet the increasing demands of tourists, Vietnam is also aware of the importance of developing sustainable travel. Besides diversifying products and improving service quality, environmental protection, preserving cultural identity, and ensuring benefits for local communities are also key factors. These are the challenges facing the Vietnamese travel industry in the coming time, requiring the joint efforts of the government, businesses, and people.
