The trend of sustainable travel choices among Vietnamese tourists
Vietnamese tourists increasingly prioritizes sustainable tourism. Based on the results from an independent survey involving 1,000 participants over the age of 18 in Vietnam, up to 96% of Vietnamese tourists surveyed affirmed that sustainable tourism plays an important role in their choices.
Specifically, more than a quarter (26%) of Vietnamese tourists are aware of the importance of sustainable tourism, yet they do not consider it a decisive factor when planning or booking their trips. Additionally, 40% of tourists express fatigue with the continuous discussion of climate change issues recently. These findings suggest that now is an opportune time to call for collective action to ensure progress towards sustainable tourism.

Looking ahead, 94% of Vietnamese tourists express their desire to engage in more sustainable travel practices over the next 12 months. Among them, 56% feel guilty about choosing travel options that negatively impact the environment, while 21% decide to act more sustainably because they believe it is the right decision.
Notably, the report indicates that 80% of Vietnamese tourists hope that the destinations they visit will be better off after their departure, and 43% believe that they have a positive impact on social issues related to the tourism industry.
An equivalent proportion (43%) also believes that community solidarity and collective effort are the most crucial keys to addressing economic challenges. Meanwhile, over half of the survey respondents (51%) think that tourism service providers hold effective solutions to environmental issues.

The International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City (ITE HCMC 2024) is expected to enhance awareness of sustainable tourism, offering thousands of opportunities for businesses, as well as creating new products and services that meet the stringent and diverse demands of the international tourist market.
Planned for September 5-7, the ITE HCMC 2024 will be hosted at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City. This event promises to provide a dynamic platform for networking, and thousands of opportunities for trade and collaboration for businesses and partners in the Vietnamese and international tourism industries.
ITE HCMC 2024 – Sustainable Tourism, Building the Future
This year’s highlight of ITE HCMC 2024 is the High-Level Tourism Forum with the theme “Sustainable Tourism, Building the Future”. The forum anticipates participation from over 200 delegates, including representatives from government regulatory bodies, domestic and international tourism experts, travel business leaders, destination management organizations, media agencies, and business developers. The aim is to discuss strategies, policies, and the most effective means to promote digital transformation, ensuring that economic and tourism development is sustainable and responsible. The discussions will also focus on establishing mechanisms for effective coordination and resource mobilization for green transformation in the tourism and hospitality sectors, and expanding markets for green and smart tourism business models.
According to the organizing committee, the scale of ITE HCMC 2024 will be expanded in terms of area and the number of booths compared to previous fairs. The event is expected to attract over 500 exhibitors and brands including international tourism promotion agencies, Departments and Tourism Promotion Centers, local tourism associations, travel agencies, tour operators, accommodation facilities, airlines, and transport companies.
